I believe in and want to continue to grow the DFC’s ability to meet our ends, to serve as a community hub for all residents, and to be a model of a successful, vibrant, cooperatively run business.

Everyone should have access to healthy, nutritious food at an affordable price. Whether you are a foodie looking for a wide variety of local produce, or a busy individual looking for affordable and healthy food at your convenience, as your representative, I will ensure the co-op serves you.

As a board member of our co-op, I bring a unique perspective shaped by my experiences as a disabled combat veteran, dedicated homeschooling parent, and supporter of my wife during her PhD journey. My life emphasizes thinking globally while acting locally, guiding my work on the board. Committed to sustainability, equity, and locality, I aim to ensure our co-op remains a vibrant community hub. I focus on fostering innovation, solving problems, and doing the unglamorous work that helps others shine.

I am happy to serve as a board member for the Davis Food Co-Op and the chair of the Governance committee. With a background in mental health therapy and disability advocacy, I strive to bring a fresh perspective to The Co-op. My goal is to build upon The Co-op’s already impressive offerings by promoting inclusivity, accessibility, and further establish it as a staple in the Davis community. With my knowledge in statistics, business operations, and organizational psychology, I am excited to bring valuable insights as The Co-op continues to make strides in community health education, staff empowerment, and sustainability.

I am very honored and thrilled to be part of the Davis Food Co-op Board of Directors. I believe in the cooperative business model and I look forward to supporting access to locally grown produce and wholesome foods while making our store more accessible to all people in our community.

As a dedicated employee of 15 years and Store Support Manager, I’m eager to bring my passion and expertise to the board. I believe that the co-op is more than just a grocery store – it’s a hub of the community, where people gather to share their love of local food and sustainable living.
Joe Martin
Board Member
I wanted to join the DFC board because I believe that working to support a food system that is fair and sustainable is one way I can help address climate change, economic inequality, and other issues I care about. I need to believe that our choices make a difference, and that by acting locally, we can positively impact not only our community but hopefully also our world. I hope to help the board make good choices that further the co-op’s mission and allow it to thrive as a great place to work, shop, and engage with our community.
Susan Pelican
Board Member
I am a founding member of the Davis Food Co-op. I shop there. I am a retired nurse-midwife and an organic farmer with a passion to educate myself and others about the current state of our food system– and to help steer this Co-op toward more organic (not poisoned) food, locally sourced, and away from industrial genetically modified or lab produced foods which do not nourish our bodies or strengthen our community.
