Grocery

We always seem to be out of:

Everything bagel. No one ever eats the salt and pepper or the plain. Please up your quantity of everything bagel by boichik bagels. Thanks!

Response:

Thank you for using our suggestion box! I apologize for the shortage on everything bagels from Boichik. I have notified the buyer for that supplier and they will adjust their ordering accordingly. If you have any other feedback, please feel free to let me know!

Meat

Request that we carry:

Request that we carry: A5 Wagyu

Response:

We have carried it in the past and we did not sell enough due to the price point and quantities.

We currently have Wagyu tri tip but it is not A5 grade.

I will reach out to Allen brothers and see what options they have as they are willing to break down cases for us so we don’t have to order a full case. Could be an option that works.

Grocery

We always seem to be out of:

Natural Value Facial Tissue

You used to always have this, but I haven’t seen it in a long time. Please restock.

Email Response:

Thank you for reaching out about Natural Value’s tissues. Unfortunately, this item is experiencing a long term out of stock until March 8, 2026. This date given to us by our distributor is an estimate, so hopefully we will see it back in the store around this time period. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know!

 Grocery

We always seem to be out of:

Hi, this is from a fully-paid up member, here for over 25 years this time, also here back in the 1970s. My mother was one of the Gleaners way back, whose activity originally led up to the establishment of the Co-op. So I’m definitely a booster. But it’s discouraging to find regular retailers beating the Co-op’s time. Here’s a recent example you can easily check out: Guerrero corn tortillas. Found in abundance elsewhere, repeatedly about to come in (past 2 weeks at least) a the Co-op, just not there. We need to do better.

Email Response:

Thank you for reaching out! My apologies about the out of stock for the Guerrero corn tortillas. Our delivery driver’s truck broke down so he was unable to deliver his route for that two week period. Unfortunately, we were not offered a replacement truck for that time. Our entire Mission line is now back in stock. If you have any other insight as to items we are experiencing shortages on, please feel free to let me know.

Request that we carry:

equal exchsnge DECAF english beeakfast.
Organic streits matzoh — next passover (Briarpatch had it)

Email Response:

Thank you for reaching out and using the suggestion box. I have gone ahead and ordered the decaf English Breakfast from Equal Exchange. It looks like we used to carry it a few years back, so look for it back on the shelves in the coming week. As for the Organic Street Matzoh, I don’t see it available from our distributor, but I will continue looking for it as we approach Passover in the coming months.

Produce

Request that we carry:

please carry pomelo! They’re a big citrus that’s sweeter and milder than regular grapefruit and have amazing health benefits. The skin can also be used in cooking as well. They’re a staple fruit in southeast Asia and I would love to see it here in Davis! It would also save me the drive to Sacramento whenever I wanted some. Thank you!!!

Response:

Called them back and left a VM letting them know we will get them Friday from Sacred Valley.

Operations / Maintenance

Comment:

At the last big Co-op sale I had to park far away due to it being busy and my loaded up cart stopped before I could get back to my car, it locked up and didn’t unlock. I had to drag it and leave it and I am 70! It wasn’t pretty. Please unlock the carts during your next big sale for old people like me. Thanks.

Response:

Customer came into the store to speak to me directly. I think it is a good idea to turn off the gatekeeper system on big sale days.

Wellness

Comment:

Can you label products that are FSA eligible? That would be helpful for the customers. Thanks!

Email Response:

Thank you for reaching out to the Davis Food Co-op with your suggestion regarding the labeling of FSA-eligible products in our Wellness Department.

We appreciate the feedback; however, we do not currently accept FSA as a form of payment for any of our products. Because we do not accept this tender, we are unable to provide specific labeling for these items at this time. Should our policy regarding FSA eligibility or payment methods change in the future, we will provide a broader notification to all of our shoppers to keep everyone informed.

Thank you for choosing the Davis Food Co-op for your shopping needs. Please feel free to reach out if we can assist you with anything further!

Deli / GM

Comment:

I’ve been shopping here for the past 1-2 years, and there’s a lot to love! The produce quality is consistently excellent, and their plant-based selection is solid. (especially appreciated in Davis where vegan options can be hit or miss)
The hippie sandwich deserves its own paragraph: it’s legitimately one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. Period.

That said, I’ve noticed the customer experience shift a bit this last year. The security presence out front and the new kiosk system for orders (which is clunky and frustrating to use) feel like they’re moving away from the warm, community-centered vibe that made this place feel special. I 100% understand that businesses evolve, but these changes make it feel less welcoming.

Other things that are great:
– 20% member days!
– Alicia, who’s always friendly, works hard, and makes the best food!
– Vegan food classes!

The co-op remains an important place for the plant-based community here. I’m hopeful they’ll find ways to balance operational needs with the welcoming, community approach that makes it special.

Response:

Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to give us such a thoughtful review and for being such a supporter & member of the Co-op <3 I will make sure all of your feedback gets back to all of the right people.

Suggestions from members & shoppers are how we make our community store better and so we truly appreciate when folks take the time to check in with us. If you would like to open a conversation with our management team about the Deli kiosk or security or even affirming your support for plant-based items, please let me know so I can connect you (I will still be passing along your feedback even if you don’t want a response).

We’re so glad to hear you love 20% off members only sales and plant based options! (And as the recipe creator of the full hippie you fully made my day with your feedback!!)

Thank you for being a member and helping to improve our Co-op!

Wellness

Request that we carry:

Hello! I would like to request that you carry NOW Foods liquid monk fruit sweetener (or any monk fruit sweetener without erythritol). I would be a regular buyer. It is so so so much better than liquid stevia and I have bonded with multiple people over our love for it. It’s one of the only things I still buy from Amazon and I would like never to buy from Amazon again. Maybe it could find a new consumer base at your establishment. I would help spread the word/proselytize/persuade. Thank you for your consideration.

Email Response:

Hi,
Thank you so much for your suggestion regarding the NOW monk fruit.
I will be ordering this on our next order and you should see it on the shelf in about 2 weeks.

Thank you for bringing this item to our attention and please spread the word. 🙂

Grocery

Request that we carry:

Can you carry Taste of the Wild/Canyon River/FELINE Recipe/Trout & Salmon Flavor dry food (large bags preferred). There are many Taste of the Wild CANINE varieties on the shelf, but none for cats. Astrid, our tortie, would be happy to support the Coop by sourcing her favorite dry food at the store. Thanks! Michael & Alice Peterson, Coop No. 11792.

Email Response:

Thank you for using our suggestion box! That is a great suggestion! I would love to bring in more varieties for felines from our Taste of the Wild brand. This coming summer, we will be evaluating our pet food category and making changes. Once we do so, I can look into expanding our selection to include some of the bags of dry food you suggested. For the time being, I could possibly special order you a bag of your preferred food for Astrid. We usually only order from Taste of the Wild about once a month, so I will be able to give you an approximate date. Let me know if you are interested.

Bulk

Request that we carry: lima beans (small or large)

Comment: Also, bulk herb section is still chaotic and full of plastic. New dispensers work horribly – better to use/waste your paper bags than bring in bottles that make a mess.

Email Response:

We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns about the plastic with our recent remodel in our bulk department.

Even with some of the changes you’re seeing, we still believe that shopping in bulk is still one of the better ways to cut down on packaging, especially single-use plastics, compared to buying prepackaged items.

We appreciate you sharing your perspective, and we’ll be sure to keep your feedback in mind as we consider any future changes in our bulk department.
